Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus review

I remember Star Trek officers walking around with thin tablet computers. It was a science fiction back then. Last week, however, as I opened the box with my new Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 Plus, I was amazed how thin it is. The sleek black desing slims the device even more, espesially when compared to my previous device. Till now, I was using WITS a81e, but decided to move to a brand tablet due to mechanical problems.

So, after using this for a week I have my first impressions . The new Tab is miles faster and responsive then P1000 Galaxy Tab I reviewed earlier. The specs are not so far apart, but the combination of the upgraded cpu and Honeycomb 3.2  really make a difference . One  apparent drawback is the lack of 3G connectivity. Although Wi-Fi is available in most places, recently there is a troubling trend of charging for the use of it. Read the rest of this entry »

Samsung Galaxy 7.0″ Tab Protective Leather Easel Case, Black review

I purchaised this case to go with my new and incredibly slim Galaxy Tab. This here was a root of my problem. While the actual tab feels very slik, the Tab in Case feels like medium size book. The positive side is that the case feels nicely built, and even…. ragged. definitively reasonable purchase for under 20$.

IVIEW-710TPC 7 inch Tablet – whats up with that?

This device is a bit of a puzzle.  It features a Resistive Touch Screen which is a bit outdated nowdays. However, the rest of the specs look pretty solid with ample telechips processor and Android 2.3 inside. It retails for 120+$ online and could be entry level device for somebody that is not looking for gaming with this tablet.

7″ EKEN M009S tablet review

Ok, so you have less then 100$ to spend on a tablet (include shipping of course!). In that case, you should look closely at 7″ EKEN M009S Tablet. This tablet retails as low as 75$, and will provide basic functionality such as internet browsing and ebook reading. Do not expect fast response, the VIA8650 cpu will definitively not win any clock speed competitions, but on the plus side will provide you with some added time on the battery. ONDA VX580W (8 GB) preview

I got interested in ONDA VX580W upon looking an Ebay listing. I use a WITS 7 inch tablet and NEXUS S phone, so I thought I had my portable needs covered. However, I find myself interested more and more in something in between those two. This is some specs I’ve got from the web. Please comment if you like the device. Read the rest of this entry »

MIDnite A81e Wits New 1122 Rom Review

Hello,

The new 1122 Android 2.2 Rom for Wits A81e is available here. I’ve already installed this Rom, and so far everything looks good. Here are cool innovations:

1) Fixed battery indication!

2) No call button on the desktop.

3) No flickering while shutting down the device.

4) Seems slightly more responsive.

5) Market Fix still works.

6) Improved settings menu.

UPDATE: newer version available

HTC Flyer 7-inch Android 3G

The brand Android 7′ inch market niche has a new competitor.  I prefer the 7 inch format, which is truly portable compared to 9.7-10.1 inch devices which are the current mainstream players.  The chubby new device is running 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which represents a choice for performance rather then sleekness. The HTC Flyer currently retails for around 900 USD.

Verdict: Not sure I want to buy it over the Galaxy Tab.

Nexus S – not the first look

Ok, Nexus S is not a tablet. However, it is not your average run of the mill phone either. Featuring 4.0′ vivid touchscreen, this device can perform  a lot of traditional  tasks considered a tablets territory. Following of month of intensive usage, i can report positive and some negative sides of the device.  The best feature of the phone is it’s relative rareness – in the world saturated with Iphones, a Nexus is a rare breed. Everybody wants to hold it and see it there Iphone is better. Actually this is a deep question, and the answer to it  is “not sure”. Both devices are similar  with there hardware capabilities, but are miles apart with the touch and feel factor. But I digress. The bigger better path Google took with the device is actually working. While my Chinese tablet is RMA with the manufacturer, I enjoy reading on the phone. The screen is just large enough that reading is simple and fun. As usual the Android & Google provides much appreciated synergy - I enjoy Gmail, Calendar and tasks features. The most useful, of course, is the seamless contacts sync between your Gmail account and the phone.

There is some problems too. The phone looks a bit cheap and fragile, at least until you power the phone and discover the vibrant screen .  I really miss the four button physical layout I had on my HTC MYtouch. The battery life is not always adequate-with a big screen and lots of apps running ans syncing in background you have to charge daily.

The verdict. I am happy. I bought a unique device which provides great phone quality, best OS out there and lots of tablet territory features.
